Conservation Operative
Winter Season Fixed term contract (April 2027)
Full time (40 hours per week + occasional overtime) Or Part-Time (pro-rata)
Salary: £25,750- £28,000 per annum (Depending on amount of Relevant Experience)
Location: Living near the Peak District or within an Hour of Huddersfield (Our Workshop)
Work Sites vary and can be across the UK, Must be willing to stay away
Full Driving Licence and Use of own car

We are seeking individuals to join our dedicated team through Winter 2026/27, to undertake peatland and river restoration, Habitat creation and gain skills unique to conservation contracting.

As a Conservation Operative, you'll work as part of our team delivering a variety of conservation projects. This is a hands-on role requiring physical fitness, attention to detail, and a commitment to health and safety.
Role specification

40 hours + occasional paid overtime (Or part time equivalent) 8am-4:30pm. Some variance in start time or end time may occur and will be repaid in TOIL.

Carry out day to day conservation land management activities on various habitat sites in the UK. Some driving is required depending on the contract location, as is some staying away (for which accommodation and meals are provided)

Adhere to all site health and safety requirements including risk assessments as directed by site supervisors, Operations Managers, Clients and Director.

Ensure your own personal health and safety as well as that of other members of staff and members of the public.

Work along side supervisors and contracts managers to ensure practical works are delivered on time and to a high standard.
Essential elements

Experience of winter working outdoors and carrying out practical works.

Some experience of working in the conservation sector (through a degree, work placement or volunteering).

Physically fit and comfortable working in all weather conditions.

A self- motivated team player with a strong work ethic.

Full UK driving licence and own a vehicle.

Ability to work away on occasion.
Please Note:

We are unable to accommodate part-days, our team arrive and leave together for safety (8am-4:30PM) and security of the site.

When meeting at our workshop, this may be earlier than the start time, and return may be later in the evening.

Contracts beyond April 2027 depend on Summer workload.

Chainsaw experience with maintenance, cross cutting & felling up to 380mm ticket
